wrushed

There was an old man I met for many years in the cold long ago,

We shared a word, perhaps a coffee, and we have lost touch since,

Today, I’m stunned to learn that his account is closed from further,

Which means I’m left guessing that is no longer alive,

How charitable have I been to forget to call,

Not having spoken in nearly two years,

But remembered weekly,

Shock,

To God we belong and to Him we return.

You will be missed my dear friend.

Ameen.

    • Awww.. thanks.. yeah, the sad thing is I’m actually too shy at times to call people. So now I feel kinda bad I didn’t make more of an effort to check up on him. One time, his wheelchair tipped and he flew out onto the street injuring his hips. He was so good about taking care of his chihuahua, Mr. Jiggles. It’s sad to assume he’s passed away, hopefully he’ll forgive me for being so far away. He was always telling me to take care of myself, and to not worry about him. A sweet old man. :D

  1. life so short, art so long. Stay close and keep in touch with whom are friends and good people is a daily work, a life commitment. Till the last goobye…A lovely and sentimental post. A warmth post. Thanks for share loveliness.

  3. I’m sorry that you have lost your friend, Pink. I’m sure he felt very blessed to know you. I’m also quite sure he understood how life grabs us up and diverts us at times. This is a good reminder. Although we can’t possibly go through daily life as if each day is our last, we can try to remember that this life and everyone in it is a gift – with an unknown “return” date. It’s so hard to let go sometimes. Part of a poem I wrote says, “Think you’ll never see that face again? Just close your eyes, my troubled friend. These gifts will never leave your heart. Our memories are our priceless art.” Blessings to you, dear Pink. xoxoJulia

Share. Your. Love. :D
